Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

I spent today whipping up a batch of sugar-salt scrubs and they honestly smell good enough to eat! Actually, they are completely edible and if they’re good enough to eat they’re good enough to put on my skin. Remember that our skin is our largest organ and is completely porous so anything you put on it is instantly absorbed directly into your body. What we put ONTO our body is just as important as what we put INTO our body. Try to buy skincare products made from natural ingredients or better yet, have fun making your own and customizing them with your favorite scents.

These scrubs take minutes to create and are made with ingredients you probably have in your home right now- olive or almond oil, sea salt, sugar, essential oils, herbs and spices. All of these ingredients are completely natural and have beneficial effects on your whole body.

Sea salt is not only an amazing exfoliant, it is also a natural detoxifier, increases circulation, has antiseptic effects, and reduces fluid retention. I like the large granule salts like Black Lava or Red Hawaiian  for extra exfoliation. And olive oil makes your skin smooth as silk while also providing anti-inflammatory and antibacterial protection.

Essential oils smell amazing, and as an added bonus they have amazing medicinal qualities. Rosemary (my favorite winter spice) is great for clarity and memory, liver detoxification and gallbladder function, reducing pain and muscle soreness and it acts as a disinfectant. I suggest using high quality oils such as DoTerra and Young Living for the best results, but aromatherapy quality oils are completely fine.  If you don’t have essential oils on hand you can put ingredients such as rosemary or thyme leaves, or grated lemon or orange, directly into the scrubs to produce a wonderful scent.
