Q. WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?
A. Nutritional Therapy gets at the root of your symptoms by using assessments and functional evaluations to identify underlying imbalances in your body chemistry. Nutritional Therapy helps you correct any imbalances by adjusting your diet, nutrient intake, and lifestyle. It focuses the roots of digestive disorders, food sensitivities, hormone imbalances, stress, and more by balancing the body and mind to create long-term health.

Q. WHAT DOES THE INITIAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?
A. Before our initial consultation, you will fill out an initial interview form, a Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire, and a three-day food and lifestyle journal. The Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire allows me to see what your symptoms are and determine which systems are out of balance and which nutrients you are deficient in. I use your results to put together a symptom burden graph so that you can see where your imbalances lie and how your health is progressing over our time together.
When you arrive at your initial session, we will discuss your health concerns and goals, your current symptoms, and your nutritional assessment. We will also go over your current diet, stress-management techniques, sleep habits, and exercise.
Together we will put together a plan to reach your goals that is realistic for you based on your personality and lifestyle.
We will also do a Functional Evaluation, which is a physical evaluation that allows me to see which systems and organs are out of balance. Read more about the functional evaluation here.
After your Initial Session, I will create a personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan for you.
Your plan will include nutrition recommendations, foods to eat and avoid, a sample meal plan, sample meal ideas, mindful eating tips, lifestyle suggestions, and links to resources such as recipes and educational articles. I will email you this material before our follow-up for you to review, and then we will go over it at the follow-up to make any necessary adjustments.
Q. WHAT DO THE FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS LOOK LIKE?
A. At the follow-up sessions, we will dig a bit deeper into your symptoms and monitor your progress. We will decide what's working and what’s not and make adjustments. I will also perform Functional Evaluations to gather more information about what systems in your body need support and decide if supplementation is necessary. After your diet has been on track for a few sessions, we can also decide if we want to do lab testing.
Q. HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO CONTINUE MY NUTRITIONAL THERAPY SESSIONS?
A. Everyone is different, so the time it takes to rebalance your body will be completely individual. Some people are ready to move on after 2-months. Others require 6-months+ to reach a point of health where they are comfortable to stop sessions. Many people also At the follow-up sessions, we will dig a bit deeper into your symptoms and monitor your progress. We will decide what's working and what’s not and make adjustments.
Q. HOW DO I KNOW I’M MAKING PROGRESS?
A. I will have you fill out Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire and perform Functional Evaluations throughout our time together. There is also the option for additional lab work, including testing for food intolerances, cortisol and other hormone levels, nutritional sufficiency, parasites, gluten sensitivity, and intestinal permeability.
Q. HOW OFTEN DO I NEED A FOLLOW-UP SESSION?
A. After the first follow-up session, most people come in every one to three weeks. We can adjust this schedule based on your individual needs and goals and the level of support and accountability you would like. After most of your symptoms have subsided, we can space the sessions out to every four to six weeks.
Q. Will I HAVE TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS?
A. I do recommend the use of supplements when necessary, usually for a limited time. Ideally, we will use real food as our source of nourishment, but sometimes the body needs a little extra help and supplementing with high quality, professional grade products is more productive. My goal is to help you balance your body and teach you what you need to eat to thrive through a properly prepared, nutrient-dense diet so that you need to take as few supplements, for as short an amount of time as possible.
Q. HOW DO I PAY FOR SESSIONS?
A. Payment is due at the time the service is provided or upon booking. I accept cash, check, or credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express).
Q. DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
A. Currently, I do not take Insurance. Depending on your HSA, you may be able to use funds if your doctor prescribes a visit with a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Many insurance companies do not cover out-of-network appointments for occupational therapy, nutrition, and disease prevention services (such as functional medicine). Nutritional Zest, LLC’s fees are comparable to those of other service providers in the therapy, nutrition, medical and healthcare industries.
Q. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
A. I offer both remote and in-person appointments. For in-person appointments, my office is located at 3530 Bee Caves Road, Suite 102, Austin, TX 78746
Q. HOW DO REMOTE SESSIONS WORK?
A. I use Video Conferencing through my client portal and phone for distance sessions with clients who live outside Austin.
Q. DO YOU OFFER ANY GROUP CLASSES?
A. I offer my RESTART group detoxing and nutrition education class periodically throughout the year. You can read more about RESTART here.
